Proposed Solution
The current efforts of the Tuscola County EDC have proven to be very important in these circumstances. Their ratio of created and retained jobs each year continues to be impressive for the relatively low level of funding. However, the overall declining state of the local economy reflects the strong negative influences of the factors outlined above. The clear conclusion is that more needs to be done in the way of economic development.
This is confirmed by the “Two Legs of Economic Development” stressed by the Sirolli Institute. Enterprise Facilitation ® is intended to be the much-needed second leg that supports traditional economic development. It is the passion and motivation of these local entrepreneurs that utilize and enhance the infrastructure and services provided by EDCs and master plans. The value of this project is further indicated by the partnerships that are leading the Entrepreneurship Task Force, including those elected officials and administrators responsible for traditional economic development in Tuscola County.
