Tuscola County Recycling Center - Events

Free Satellite Tire Collections

In a collaborative effort between Mosquito Abatement, local units of government and Tuscola County Recycling, the following municipalities will be hosting a free tire collection. These collections are limited to Tuscola County residents only (no out of county residents, no businesses and no commercial tires). Residents are limited by state law to bringing only seven (7) tires per vehicle but the tires can be any size and on a rim. Please make sure tires are clean and that they are not attached to an axel. As always, bring help to unload your tires. Please contact Tuscola County Recycling for additional information at (989) 672-1673 or email recycle@tuscolacounty.org.

  • Village of Akron will be hosting a free tire collection on Saturday September 11th from 10:00am to 3:00pm (or until the trailer is filled, whichever comes first). This collection is being held at the Village of Akron Hall located at 4380 Beach Street in Akron.
  • Fremont Township will be hosting a free tire collection on Thursday September 16th from 9:00am to 3:00pm (or until the trailer is filled, whichever comes first).  This collection is being held at the Fremont Township Hall located at 4850 Mertz Road in Mayville.
  • City of Vassar will be hosting a free tire collection on Tuesday September 28th from 7:30am to 3:30pm (or until the trailer is filled, whichever comes first). This collection is being held at the City of Vassar Hall located at 287 E. Huron Avenue in Vassar.

Mercury Health Thermometer Exchange - View here
This program is generously funded by the Recycling Millage
Residents may bring their mercury health thermometers in a plastic zip lock bag to the Recycling Center anytime we are open, year round.
We will exchange your old mercury health thermometer for a brand new digital thermometer.
Limit one digital thermometer per household please.

Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection Set Tuscola County Recycling is sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste collection Friday October 1st. An appointment is required to attend this event and there is no fee for county residents. No commercial or business waste can be accepted at this event. To schedule an appointment or to get more information on any Tuscola County recycling program, please call Tuscola County Recycling at (989) 672-1673, email recycle@tuscolacounty.org or check out our website www.tuscolacounty.org/recycling. This program is paid in part by the Recycling Millage but donations are accepted and appreciated during this event.

Other Programs

  • Tires accepted year-round, there is a fee per tire. More Info
  • Electronics accepted year-round from Tuscola County residents ONLY, there is a fee for anything with a screen (i.e. televisions, computer monitors, laptops, etc). Call for details: 989-672-1673
  • Rechargeable & Automotive batteries accepted year round free of charge. Household batteries can be recycled at your local WalMart Electronics Department.
