Mosquito Abatement Biology Technician
Class Title: Biology Technician, (Temporary, Seasonal, Part-Time, At-Will)
Pay Rate: $8.25/Hour, No Benefits
Distinguishing Features Of The Class: Under direct supervision of the Biologist and Director, performs work of routine difficulty in mosquito abatement operations and research; performs related work as required.
Examples Of Work: (Illustrative only)
Ability to work independently.
Performs field inspections pre and post mosquito control insecticide applications.
Places, operates, and collects mosquito traps and samples.
Identification of mosquito species utilizing microscope.
Assists with spray equipment calibration.
Assists with pesticide efficacy testing and other research projects as needed.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
Must be able to pass examinations to obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicator License (7F) from the Michigan Department of Agriculture.
Must have a valid Michigan Driver's License with a good record and maintain such.
Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug screen, and a criminal background investigation.
Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, 100 pounds assisted.
Hours: The Biology Technician shall be available to work 23 consecutive 35-hour weeks. However, the employer cannot guarantee the number of weeks nor hours as the work is severely affected by weather and other events. The Employer reserves the right to send the Biology Technician home, call the Biology Technician in or notify the Biology Technician he/she will not be need at its discretion.
Training and Experience: Completion of college level courses in biology or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.

Mosquito Abatement Technician
Class Title: Technician, (Temporary, Seasonal, Part-Time, At-Will)
Pay Rate: $8.25/Hour, No Benefits
Distinguishing Features Of The Class: Performs work of routine difficulty in mosquito abatement operations involving the use of general use pesticides under the direction of a supervisor. This position requires very little immediate supervision therefore requires an individual who is responsible, conscious of their actions and follows Integrated Pest Management procedures for proper control of various mosquito life-stages of development.
Examples Of Work: (Illustrative only)
Checks truck and small engine for ability to perform their functions.
Prepares and checks larviciding and/or adulticiding equipment prior to taking said equipment into the field.
Drives to treatment area(s) for larviciding and/or adulticiding.
Communicates with the public with courtesy.
Participates in an Integrated Pest Management program (IPM).
Checks larviciding and adulticiding area(s) for need and type of treatment.
Larvicide's and/or adulticide area(s) if necessary.
Prepares a report of said treatments(s).
Performs adulticiding duties under direction of the Foreman via radio.
Maintains record(s) of his/her adulticiding activity for that night.
Properly stores equipment and pesticides.
Keeps his/her vehicle clean and reports any damage or need of repairs.
Routine cleaning of vehicle, building and lawn maintenance.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to lift 60 pounds, 100 pounds assisted.
Must be able to pass a physical examination and drug test given by a physician selected by Tuscola County
Must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
Must be able to properly follow a map.
Must have a valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record and maintain such.
Hours: The Technician shall be available to work 23 consecutive 35 hour work weeks. However, the employer cannot guarantee the number of weeks nor hours worked, as the work is severely affected by weather and other events. The Employer reserves the right to send the Technician home, call the Technician in or notify the Technician he/she will not be need at its discretion.
Training and Experience: Individuals must be able to pass an examination to obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicator License (7F) from the Michigan Department of Agriculture. Must be at least 18 years of age to obtain such.

Mosquito Abatement Utility Person
Class Title: Utility Person, (Temporary, Seasonal, Part-Time, At-Will)
Pay Rate: $8.25/Hour, No Benefits
Distinguishing Features Of The Class: Under the direct supervision of the Director, performs a variety of clerical tasks, including filing and computer duties. Performs related work as well.
Examples Of Work: (Illustrative only)
Cross-indexes and files records, documents, and correspondence.
Proofreads typewritten and printed materials.
Operates calculator, copier, fax machine, computer and other office equipment.
Answers telephone and gives general information in response to public or official queries.
Processes personnel actions and records.
Light custodial work (sweeping/vacuuming office area, taking out the trash, light dusting).
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to deal with the public and co-workers courteously and tactfully.
Knowledge of office terminology, procedures, equipment, business arithmetic, and English.
Knowledge of elementary bookkeeping.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written direction.
Ability to identify people entering and exiting building, read small print correspondence (typed and written) and computer monitor.
Ability to receive verbal instructions and converse with residents, co workers and visitors. Must be able to respond to audible emergency signals and alarms. Must be able to converse over the telephone.
Ability to maintain complex clerical records and prepare reports from records.
Ability to make minor decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established policies.

Mosquito Abatement Assistant Foreman
Class Title: Assistant Foreman, (Temporary, Seasonal, Part-Time, At-Will)
Pay Rate: $11.73/hour, No Benefits
Distinguishing Features Of The Class: Under the general supervision of the Director, performs work of moderate difficultly in supervision and participation in mosquito control field operations. Is responsible for the quantity and quality of abatement work done by field crews.
Examples Of Work: (Illustrative only)
Supervises work crews of varying number and is responsible for their performance of assigned work during absences of the Foreman or as directed.
Assists in training seasonal staff in equipment use and pesticide application.
Assists in all other facets of training.
Assist with the implementation of established safety procedures with respect to all chemicals, some of which may be toxic.
Is responsible for the appropriate and safe use of mosquito abatement equipment.
Schedules and assigns daily work assignments for seasonal staff and disperses work crews to designated work zones as directed.
Is responsible for checking working condition of the equipment at the beginning and ending of his/her.
Performs field inspections, prepares and maintains records of field operations as directed by the Director.
Monitors conduct of field personnel and inspects treatment sites to ensure that proper procedures and application rates are used as directed by the Director.
Periodically assesses and writes evaluations and/or assists in the evaluations of seasonal employees.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to deal with the public and subordinates courteously and tactfully.
Considerable knowledge of rules, regulations, procedures, and application methods related to pesticide applications and standard mosquito control practices.
Read small print correspondence (typed and written) and computer monitor.
Ability to receive verbal instructions and converse with residents, co workers and visitors. Must be able to respond to audible emergency signals and alarms. Must be able to converse over the telephone.
Ability to perform duties of subordinates as necessary.
Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate subordinate personnel.
Must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
Must be able to pass examinations to obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicator License (7F) from the Michigan Department of Agriculture.
Must have a valid Michigan Driver's License with a good record and maintain such.
Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug screen, and a criminal background investigation.
Ability to successfully pass power fork truck written exam and demonstrate proper driving techniques and safety.
Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds.
Hours: The Assistant Foreman shall be available to work 26 consecutive 40.0 hour weeks. The employer cannot guarantee the number of weeks nor hours as the work is severely affected by weather and other events. The Employer reserves the right to send the employee home, call the employee in or notify the employee he/she will not be needed at its discretion.
